End of live for 1.9 strings in AMOS

Hi!

I would like to announce that we plan to get rid of all 1.9 strings registered in the AMOS repository. There are several reasons for that:

  • These strings are for read-only access. Strings for Moodle 1.x can't be edited using AMOS. So all these strings just occupy valuable space in the database which makes certain operations (like the index update) a bit slower.
  • Our old CVS servers that hold the 1.x translations will be shut down in January.
  • AMOS itself does not need these strings - relevant ZIP packages are generated from the original repository.

However, I would like to hear your eventual objections. Is there anybody out there referring to 1.9 string registered in AMOS in a way that would persuade me that they are really needed here? If so, can you describe how and why you need 1.9 strings in AMOS? Thanks for you comments!

Is see only one reason for 1.9 strings in AMOS anyway: updated 1.9 strings can travel to other branches that way.

Since CVS ends, the way to AMOS for 1.9 ends, so 1.9 strings in AMOS become absolutely useless.

So I think: yes, they can go when CVS ends.

Hi David,

I do not see problems on removing 1.9 strings form AMOS.

Hi,

If seems that Moodle 1.9 strings are still in AMOS...

If there's no use for it, perhaps better drop them from AMOS, and remove 1.9 from possible versions (at the top).

I've seen 1.9 is no more in possible choices for version!
